Bingo, here you have inadvertently described the attitude of the type of deeply believing believers you are condemning.
James 5:14
Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord...
(PS, doctors did exist in James' day, yet no mention at this opportune time.)
15 And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up.
Seems faith is scripturally discharged upon calling for the elders to pray per the above. After that, things appear to be in the god's hands, according to his explicit promise above.
No?

Sure it does. If the child, after prayer, isn't getting better then there's nothing scripturally against seeking medical help. The persons who watch a child suffer, and sometimes die, are simply trying to prove to God that they trust Him in spite of their prayer of faith changing nothing. They're guilty of lacking faith but would never admit that. Peer pressure in those sects is a powerful factor also.

I know people who call themselves 'apostolic' who are very cult-like and do practice this.

I'm not bitter against all things 'apostolic'. I'm simply speaking truth.

I would appreciate it greatly if you would quit the spewing of venom you are doing. I have been around some of the most conservative men on the planet and your depiction of them is way off. Are there some......of course....the extreme minority? Absolutely.
|
Those 'some'.....should they be corrected for preaching/teaching a doctrine which results in children suffering and sometimes dying for lack of medical care?
I doubt I'll get a straight yes or no answer.

Thousands of believers are VERY conservative in dress and beliefs and behavior and would NEVER espouse to these doctrines to the abuse/harm of children. Apparently because you have encountered a few in your small world of experience you think all ultra-con apostolics are the same. THEY'RE NOT. I guess you believe the earth is flat too.....lol
|
Of course all aren't the same. But in my experience, and believe me I've had several decades of experience in the oneness pentecostal sects, the more conservative the sect, the more likely they are to embrace the teaching that it's a sin to go to the doctor. That's the truth, like it or not.

I do not mean to be harsh, however your relentless attempt to paint those who hold standards as a personal commitment as being cultish and in heresy gets old.
|
Of course they're cultish. They can't/won't even fellowshp with the UPC folks many times. The UPC is too liberal for them. They call themselves the REAL 'apostolics'. They're the real standard, the real manifestation, of oneness pentecostalism. To be fair though, the UPC folks won't fellowship with them either. They're too conservative.

No. You're in error in assuming every prayer prayed a the prayer of faith. There are plenty of prayers prayed which are misguided and unbelief prayers. Folks just don't want to admit it many times.

Oil was used as a medicine back then, so anointing them with oil was a medical remedy. Yes Doctors existed back them but medicine was primitive and sometimes the cure was worse than the disease.
