What Can a Christian Do On A Cruise?

My daughter and her husband, as a Christmas present is paying for the family to go on a Cruise to the Caribbean. I've never desired to go on a cruise, but I do love to be with my family. There will be my 2 sons and their wives, my daughter and her husband and me

She sent me one of their advertisements, and there isn't one thing on there that I would want to do, except eat. I hear they have fabulous food, but I bet it won't match home cooking. I'll take my Kindle and maybe read a lot, but that won't be with the family.

You that have been on cruises, any suggestions?

My wife and I went a few years back. We would read, eat, shop, check out the shows at night, and a lot of relaxing. Also, there will be opportunities to get off the ship at the different ports for more sight seeing and excursions if you're interested. You can still relax, enjoy the family, and take in all of nature's beauty without being a drunkard (contrary to worldly beliefs)

Re: What Can a Christian Do On A Cruise?

My parents went on a cruise several years ago with a bunch of other Pastors and wives. They enjoyed it. Like Obrien posted, there should be several ports of call during the trip, and on-board there are a few things you can do with the family that don't include going to the club.

Sounds like it will be a good time with family.

Re: What Can a Christian Do On A Cruise?

Check out the brochure for the types of excursions offered. I've never been on a Caribbean cruise, but I have cruised Alaska and along the west coast. I'm sure that there are excursions that would be interesting and fun. See what the others in the family are planning for their excursions. Since they are younger, they may be planning things that you don't feel comfortable doing. During the day when they are out and about - yes, you could sit on the deck and read. However, if you want to do something different than what they are doing - don't give up the chance to learn things of historical / cultural interest. Take one of the excursions that interests you - even if alone.

Now - while the ship is at sea - there are usually rooms that have large windows and are furnished with tables/chairs for playing games. Plan to take games that you play as a family (board games, dominoes, rook, or other card games). You can sit together - have a great time of family fun and enjoy the beautiful scenery and/or ocean view. There are usually places outside on deck that are set up for such a type of thing - but sometimes the weather isn't cooperative with that. Usually there are different activities even on board that are interesting. Sometimes there are tours the the kitchen areas with information given by the chef. I've seen ice carving demonstrations. Even classes on how they fold their napkins and towels into such cute creations. Lots of stuff to see and do!

Most of the shows are family friendly. Sometimes the ones later in the evening are adult only. Read the brochures and even talk to the staff on board for their input.

Yes, usually the food is good. I smiled at your comment about "home cooking." No, it isn't the same - it's a different type. It was absolutely out of this world on our first cruise. We were somewhat disappointed on our Alaskan cruise. The cruise line makes a huge difference - in many things. If they have a midnight buffet, it is worth it to go at least once. The art of how they display the food is worth staying up late to see! Take a camera. And if they have a chocolate night? Don't miss it!!!! Beautiful creations carved from chocolate. And the desserts are good!

Go! Have a GREAT time! Enjoy your children and be thankful that they were kind enough to do this for you. Some children would have been all about going and having a good time for themselves and leaving momma at home because she might cramp their style.

I wish they had oil painting classes, me and my daughter would both enjoy that. But I'll be sure and check to see what they have.

It's on my bucket list.......just not sure if all that great food would all be off limits due to food allergies. But.....it still sounds cool.

Go! Enjoy!
