Other than "the bible says so," Christians have no valid argument why the behavior is wrong. If someone wants to argue that homosexuality is unnatural, consider the fact that there are over 400 species where homosexuality is common, and only one species is anti-homosexual.
Humans are made in the image of God, Male and Female
they are a divine pair, made for each other.
leave two males in an island and death and desolation will be the only result.
leave a male and a female in an island and a thriving civilization might result.

The basic problem with homosexuality (beyond using what God says about it) is that there no life that comes from it, only disease, and death. No new life can come forth from same sex union. Yes, there is homosexuality in nature, and there are asexual things too. But, the important thing to note, is that no life has ever been shown to come forth from two of the same. It takes a male and female of any kind or species to reproduce.
This is why nature teaches us that homosexuality results in death, and not life.

So is it a sin for infertile people to marry or to have sex? Or for married people to choose not to have children? Or for someone to remain single and a virgin for life?

KeptByTheWord said "beyond using what God says about it" maybe you missed that? Anyway many cultures in history frowned upon infertile couples, failure to produce life, was counterproductive. Also producing weak sickly children was problematic. Clan elders would inspect the child and if they believed the child would become a useless eater the child was left out for exposure. Choosing not to have children was not an option, because new births insured growth for the group. Virgins for life? Also not an option for most groups, neither boy or girl had the option of life long celibacy. Most ancient or tribal groups had prearranged marriages, usually when the child was an infant. These arrangements were contracted with property or monies being part of the deal. Homosexuality on the other had was a big issue, while some cultures allowed some form of it, it was usually done discreetly and the men who usually engaged in it were already married to a woman. Yet, most ancient cultures felt that it was not in anyway beneficial to the group.
Yet, with the introduction of Christianity into the ancient pagan world ancient practices of regulating population and killing off the unwanted had stopped.

When two of the same sex want to get married, the purpose it is serving is to fulfill lust, and no reproduction of the two can take place, thus the union cannot reproduce itself into another living being.
With the other scenarios you mentioned, infertile people can marry, and miraculous things can happen - think of Hannah who was childless, yet God opened her womb, and blessed her with Samuel.
There is not one single recorded event in history where two same sex unions resulted in a miraculous production of life. It is just not there.
If someone chooses to remain single for life, that remains their choice, and I don't see how that scenario goes along with this discussion anyhow.

A barren woman suffered much throughout history, even when it may have been her husband who was the problem. Yet many women had their wombs opened miraculously after a time of being barren, for various reasons.
Homosexual unions have no natural way of reproducing, not even miraculously, because it takes two different kinds to come together to result in a new life. This again... is nature teaching us.
None of you are qualified to talk about this subject from an intellectual position. I'm willing to venture and say that none of you have ever spoken to someone who is homosexual and got to know them personally. I'm appalled at the bigotry in this thread.
