Re: Social drinking?
Go ahead and flirt with being an alcoholic, I'll just stick to my Southern style sweet tea.

Re: Social drinking?
You, and my husband both
Actually though, my husband is trying to cut back on sugar, and has been drinking more water. It's been real hard on him though! That sweet tea is ingrained in the way he eats. Beans, fried taters, cornbread, and a big glass of sweet tea... that's his kind of meal...
But, we are trying to change bad habits - too much sugar - and it's not easy!

Re: Social drinking?
My wife started making tea w truvia a few months ago which replaced honey, which replaced sugar about 3 years ago. Took a bit to get used to every time.
Not sure all the reasoning, I just take what I can get. I drink a pitcher of tea a day by myself, everyday during the summer.
Beans and fried taters(w some dark brown in'm!)
We like a nice large glass of cold Martinelli's sparkling grape juice a whole lot now and then too

Beans, bacon, and fried taters (thick cut)
Always use lard.

Re: Social drinking?
I have a question and it is a little off topic but is there any artificial sweetener that is safe to use? I have been using Splenda but now they are saying that is not safe either. sigh

Now, I don't think I'll be attacked for this, (not on an Apostolic/Trinitarian/agnostic/atheist/disgruntled ex-Apostolic/ex-christian forum) but since we don't have a large group of vegetarians and vegans I'll post my view on artificial sweeteners. The truth is there is no research linking cancer or any adverse affects of artificial sweeteners to humans. Rats, were fed super large quantities of artificial sweeteners for the animals to come up with issues, but you can't possibly drink enough diet soda to cause you to have an issue from the sweetener. No, the HFCS in the soda and foods is another thing, but I would eat or drink something with artificial sweetener before something with HFCS.
This is my opinion, and you must still do your own research.

Re: Social drinking?
When my dad told me the best poison he ever used against fire ants was Splenda, that got me to thinking. He said they gobbled up sugar, and multiplied. But when he fed them Splenda, they died by the thousands. He said it was incredible.
So... if Splenda will do that to fire ants, I can only imagine what it does to our bodies, especially given the fact that sugar did not bother the ants at all.
I know there are a lot of studies out there still being done about artificial sweeteners, and the jury is still hung, depending on which study you look at. However, I know myself that all things in moderation are best. A little artificial sweetener here and there probably won't kill you, but... each of our bodies react differently and process different substances differently. If you find you can use an artificial sweetener without any adverse effects, in moderation you could probably be safe using them.
But, I think in all honesty, the more natural foods that we put in our bodies, and less chemicals, the better off we will be.

I agree, but having the information on the truth concerning natural sweeteners is better than just saying that you fed it to insects and they died.
Dawn dish washing detergent (I know we don't eat it) kills insects on contact. We wash our dishes with the soap, yet we don't ingest large quantities of the substance. So, an ant eating Splenda and a human eating the sweetener may be two different things? Maybe?

Yes, the "research" out there is VERY hard to wade through. Facts, truth, or lies? How do we know? LOL...
So yes, I think the best approach is moderation in all things.
And true enough, while we wouldn't sit and eat dish soap, we certainly get certain amounts of it if dishes are not cleaned good enough, I'm sure. I think though that dish soap just makes the insects wings not be able to create enough friction to fly, and that is what kills them...

It also messes with their antennas so they can't dial in their stations which play lovely pig singing.
