Because Caesar has rejected God's definition of Marriage, then it is time for the church to reject marriage by Caesar.

It is time to disavow marriage by the state.

If the church simply rejects to marry by the state and issue its own certificates of marrying, it would put Caesar out of the business of marriage.

I just think it would be funny for the preacher to show up at the "wedding" after changing the oil in his car wearing his overalls, work shirt and run over work boots. Plus a really baaaad organ player that only know one song, "Farther Alone", then add about 25 or 30 lively saints that whoop and holler while the preacher delivers his "wedding message" that goes on and on and on and on. You want a church wedding? Well here it is.

come on I was in a wedding where the sermon was short and to the point.
The minister gave about a 15 minutes or less sermon on having Jesus aboard the boat.
that no matter what storms the marriage goes thru if Jesus is on board there will be peace and safety in the marriage.

The wedding was held on a separate day than the regular church day.

Many Christians have already done so. Besides, "civil marriage" has become a shame. A high stakes gamble that even non-Christian couples are hesitant to take.

So, apparently here in Colorado, common-law marriage is just as legally valid as "legal" marriage, and couples can even solemnize their own ceremony. There's even a sample affidavit that couples can fill out which serves as a marriage certificate of sorts:

STATE OF COLORADO
AFFIDAVIT OF COMMON LAW MARRIAGE

We, the undersigned, attest to the following facts:

1. We are at least 18 year of age. If between the ages of 16 and 18, we have obtained proper parental or guardian consent.

2. There is no legal impediment to our marriage, including, but not limited to, a prior marriage of either party that has not been legally terminated by death or divorce.

3. We are married to each other and understand that a common law marriage holds all the rights, privileges and responsibilities of a lawful marriage. We understand that only death or divorce may terminate this marriage.

Both parties sign and have it notarized and it's considered valid just the same as a marriage certificate, only the State is not a legal party to the union.
