Well, I get where you are going there; it can be all too easy to embark upon human good.

That's the point. Amen.

followers — Greek, “imitators” of God, in respect to “love” (Eph_5:2): God’s essential character (1Jo_4:16).

Clark

The word μιμηται, which we translate followers, signifies such as personate others, assuming their gait, mode of speech, accent, carriage, etc.; and it is from this Greek word that we have the word mimic.

Barnes

Be ye therefore followers of God - Greek, “Be imitators - μιμηταὶ mimētai - of God.” The idea is not that they were to be the friends of God, or numbered among his followers, but that they were to imitate him in the particular thing under consideration.

Re: WWJD: What Would Jesus Do? Do You Really Want

Let me put it this way. THERE IS ONE MANNER< but ONE ALONE, in which we imitate Jesus. In all Jesus did, HE DID NOT RELY UPON HUMAN POWER to perform His ministry. He relied on the SPIRIT. Looking at HIS OUTWARD ACTIONS AND trying to imitate them is WRONG. It is HIS INNER ACTIONS we must imitate. And they were relying in faithful prayer and submission to the Father for all He did. he never once acts independently as a human being without reliance upon the Spirit of the Father IN HIM.

John 5:30 KJV I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.

John 14:10 KJV Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.

WWJD is an error, . . . UNLESS it is ONE ANSWER for everything we face. What would Jesus do about this situation or that? The answer is the same! Rely upon the Spirit within His humanity to guide Him. NEVER EVER without reliance on the Father, do anything!

The bible teaches there's more than just the need to serve God. It's the method we use to serve Him that matters.

Rom 7:6    But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.
I serve (imitate) through the Holy Ghost the things delivered by Jesus and the apostles.

Your turn.

If you know that means you cannot do it in your flesh, but rely upon His SPirit to cause you to do His will, then I agree.
