Just asking.....is Romper Room over? I didn't know until this thread that third-graders had micturition contests. Learn something new everyday.....
To the topic at hand, I would attend the OP church because the doctrine is what I believe. I don't believe in the trinity, therefore attending there because 'it's a happenin church' isn't a good enough reason to go.
If I have dead, dull church, that's nobody's fault but my own. It's not the church's responsibility to entertain me in worship and praise to my God.
Where's Rico?
I'd agree that you could turn things around .... however many mitigating factors could make this difficult.
For those of you that say Trinitarians are not concerned about the doctrine of trinity vs Oneness, I would encourage you to start witnessing to your friends at the trinity church to the truth of the Oneness of God, and Baptism in Jesus Name, and see what happens. You will find that folks that have been your best friend will become your enemy. Ask me how I know....................
Doctrine DOES matter to me, so I would either:
attend the dead Oneness church, and attempt to bring it to life
move and find a better church to attend
start a work myself
It is too late in the game for me to settle for a doctrine I know to be wrong. Whether I saw trinitarians saved or lost, if I believed that the doctrine of the trinity was incorrect, then I couldn't see me being able to attend as a regular saint ever.
BTW, to me it is a salvational doctrine, but at the same time I try to be a man of principle. I would not attend a church that taught the "magic hair" doctrine either.
I've attended UPC, AOG, Open Bible, independent, etc. over the years. Unless I could not sit under the pastor at the oneness Pentecostal church, I would pick that one. I'm not concerned with what's "happening". Jesus Christ is alive in my heart, not just in a building or congregating group of people. I would rather my children were taught solid doctrine, than emotionalism or activities. I'm certain there are locales where I might pick the "trinitarian" church over the "oneness" but it wouldn't be for reasons of "dead" or "happening".
Honestly, I didn't know how to answer the question. I do have children, 4 of them...and after reading Sherri's post, I just may go to a denominal church if I had to.
I appreciate that denominational churches have sincere folks who are seeking God and that the Spirit of God blesses them with His presence, after all they do preach the gospel. And they are able to preach it without teaching blatant Trinitarianism using the Biblical language of Father and Son. I'm not trying to discredit their relationship with God but it is not according to truth.
But I would choke and squirm in my seat if the doctrine of the Trinity was taught. I would find it extremely difficult to witness people being baptized in the titles and say 'AMEN' or smile at them afterwards letting them think they were obeying God and doing a "good thing". And worst of all, it would be torment to hold my tongue after hearing someone tell a person they were saved after repeating the sinner's prayer.

As a young preacher, I thought I could "witness" by joining a Church of God. I was given a lot of leeway, and preached a lot. I taught the Sunday School, and was able to get the Sunday school literature from PPH. I tried to preach the Holy Ghost, believing that if someone gets full of the Holy Ghost, and follows the Spirit, they would get the revelation. But there came a day when as I sat listening to a visiting preacher talk about God the Father, and God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost, that the Spirit spoke to me as if he were sitting right next to me. The words I heard as I looked at my wife & 3 children were, "If you do not get them out of here, they are going to become confused". I did not return to a service there, but did set down and discuss this with the Pastor, who already knew my beliefs from the beginning.
To make a long story short, one of our "friends" there, upon finding that I was Oneness, called me to tell me I was of the devil, and lost because I believed that "Jesus Only" doctrine instead of the trinity. I simply told him that I was the same person that was his friend prior to his finding out my beliefs. He was very rude, and very blunt that I was lost just before he hung up on me.
The Pastor of the church is still a friend, though we have not kept up as friends should. He was open to Jesus Name baptism, but just couldn't see it as something required. He no longer Pastors the church, as the man that was my "friend" eventually went against him, and he resigned rather than fight them.

Sad story, but a good lesson to learn.
Doctrine is important.
1Tim 4:16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.
