NEITHER has anyone else. Just a Baptist strawman. Water did NOT heal Naaman but his healing took place in the water. Water did not make the blind man see but when he washed with water he recieved his sight. Water can never become wine but it was water that did become wine. God put water in the plan NOT man. To despise water is to despise God who put water in the plan. Surely NOT a laver of water?????????????????? What was God thinking??
Pour water on the altar???????????????? Put the baby Moses in water????
The Spirit of God moved on the face of the deep(WATER)??????
Kill the sacrifce over water????????? Wash the sacrifice with water?????
Wash the priest with water????????????? Out of His side water????????
The angel went into the pool of water????????????????
Remember God anything to do with water is works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How long will this double standard persist? The 3 steppers can throw denominational grenades and whimper when it's done in kind???
One might wonder why I actually care to engage in this discussion. In the first place it has been a great one…
... So. There you have it. To me, this discussion means something. Being Pentecostal means something. I spent years working with these folks kids. Now what? I am sick and angry. Some of you may say its ok, they will be saved…yadda yadda.. what ever. They have WALKED AWAY from truth. I don’t care what you believe. I don’t care you say I am harsh. I don’t care. These folks have walked away and are raising their kids AWAY from truth. I love these people. Don’t think I don’t. I would be at their house in 15 minutes if they called and needed me, with no strings attached. But I am heart sick. DOCTRINE MEANS SOMETHING.
I'm sorry for that experience, Ferd. About the only consolation I can offer is one that you've already mentioned- it's not the first time and it won't be the last. I know, that doesn't sound like much consolation.
So it's would be a pretty easy question to answer, right?
I guess it's not so easy to answer- no answers yet.
And did you just call me a "Baptist?" Weren't you one of the ones who complained loudly about being called "Catholic" or "Mormon" and the like?
While you're throwing snowballs around, why don't you take a stab at the question? What is it about baptism that saves us? Again, Peter comes right and declares it in 1 Peter 3:21, but that doesn't appear to line up with your theology. Or am I wrong? How does baptism "save" us?
It's all about walking away from truth Pela ... we don't have it ... they do.
You said this week that they for decades have hammered those who don't fit in their God box ... yet when they are challenged by their own Apostolic brethren they ... you fill in the blanks.
I'm sorry it came across as a "grenade" there, Ferd. I certainly didn't have you in mind. I was hoping the cartoons at the end would show that I also had a light hearted intent.
It's just that you have to agree that my TIC post does fairly represent the way many OP's would approach a group of people who worship in the fashion that the disciples of John did that you cite. How many people with the spirit and potential Apollos have we hindered from entering into our ranks?
It is a fact that many times when we approach people in this condition we are ostracized by our own brethren. I baptized a Church of Christ pastor in Jesus name several years ago and then helped him to baptize his entire congregation.
I ended up getting hammered for compromise because I didn't first demand that they all speak in tongues before I agreed to baptize them (only a few went on to get the Holy Ghost). But the man approached me. Should I have turned him out into the street?
The "collusion with the devil" accusation is exactly the charge that we have laid against people who were sincere in their hunger for the things of God, but who didn't pray through in our altars.
Pel,
You come with a lot of baggage! You have seen and heard some unChristlike things from brothers in Christ that I can't even imagine! No wonder you argue the way you do over some things. Sometimes without knowing what is behind some of your comments, I must admit, I misunderstand what you are saying because I don't know your background. Thank you for explaining where you are coming from. It helps me to understand you and your posting better. It kind of puts a different light on what your saying.

I see what your saying here, but you gotta admit bro. sometimes your mouth can be a grenade launcher.

In fact I think that the insinuation of "hateful" Pentecostals is coming mostly from the fertile imaginations of bitter, backslidden ex Apostolics who are constantly trying to find a way to justify their actions. ~ strait shooter

Thanks Mizpeh, and I wish the happiest of New Year's for you and yours this year.

I don't know what you meant by Ferd playing in the sand. He and I have some pretty straight forward exchanges- and we seem to agree on most things. As far as the "denominational labeling" is concerned, I'd be happy if my brother Steve Epley would just try and answer the question: how does baptism save us?

I'd answer your question but I'm afraid you're limiting the scope to 1 Peter 2:21.
