True, and might I suggest that the more mature (often not the same as more aged) should be able to look past the delivery and still be able to read the message.
Unfortunately, it still seems to have denigrated, ON BOTH SIDES.
I am seeing less and less refutation of position and more personal attacks.
Frankly, in careful reading of the posts, Dan seems to be attacking ideas and beliefs and receiving personal attacks on his method of delivery in response.
I am glad you have an opinion. regardless of what you think you see, look at where it degrades. what is the common denominator? that is what has to be dealt with.
this thread had hundreds of posts from both sides with no problem. then somehting changed. having at least 1 eye and the capasity to comprehind english should be enough to figure out what/where the change took place.

I'm sorry, Mizpeh. Of course it would be wrong to say "all 3 steppers..." or "all 1 steppers..." or "all of anybody..." As Scotty pointed out, there are entire areas that appear to be immune to this kind of stuff.
I just threw that post out there to respond to a string of complaints about how aggressive the "1 steppers" are. It is a matter of fact that this "war" within the UPC was started by a group of zealous "3 steppers" who made no bones about reviling our leaders.
I don't think I feel "resentment," deep seated or otherwise. Too many of these people keep getting their "comeuppance" for me to feel like "Jesus has left the building." (That's when resentment would truly set in).
I'm just adding my voice to the choruses. Take it for what it's worth; and I'll be the first to tell you that my opinion and perspectives are a mere drop in the bucket, at best.
It looked like you were painting all three-steppers with black hats and mustaches much like what is done on this forum at times. Is it possible some one-steppers could have 'stepped' on some innocent toes as well at one time or another?

I'm afraid all I have is my experiences. I'm just one guy and a small fish at that. "How prevelant...?" I have no idea.
And I did want to try and provide enough examples to show Scotty that I'm not making things up. My experiences may be atypical, I hope that is the case! But I kept silent for a number of years thinking that I was supposed to be silent. Meanwhile, the attacks continued and good men were left in despair.
Finally when I was publically attacked from a pulpit in the presence of my children, I went directly to my district board and demanded an investigation. The subject of the investigation was of me! I was exonerated completely and an offer was extended to me to rejoin the ministerial fellowship. All of this is a matter of record with my district board, though this also obviously makes me someone that a lot of preachers would just rather not have around.
Were you publically attacked from a pulpit because you were a 'one stepper'?
Because of the nature of organizations and the politics that go with men who are carnal at times, I doubt if your experience is even remotely isolated. I heard a bunch of stuff when I lived in Maryland that turned me off from the politics of the UPC.

Look, I like things short and sweet. I enjoy books with bullets pointing directly to the facts as opposed to a long drawn out laborious study of tombs of literature or page after page of a forum thread. I'm a busy man and I like to know. If I find the points as outlined provocative I'll study up on it. But if someone cannot even articulate what they believe in a short and clear fashion, I just loose interest. I'm not looking for a long explaination...just a point by point explaination.
Can someone please help this ol' fogie with a short and sweet bullet by bullet explaination of what a "one stepper" believes?
One step = Repent and you are forgiven, filled with the Holy Spirit, and saved. No water baptism and no Spirit baptism with the evidence of speaking in tongues needed. If you die of a heart attack immediately after you repent, you are on your way to glory.
