I wanted nothing more than to be accepted and to be loved in MY CHURCH. I wanted to belong. But after 10 years in UPC, that hasn't happened . . . because I don't LINE UP with their (UPCs) interpretation of holiness. Can't seem to sell out to that which I don't believe.

So yes, rejection by UPC has been my experience (not opinion).
It saddens me that has been your experience. I trust that you have tried other UPC churches that has resulted in the same experience of rejection. If that is the case, it is unfortunate. I can tell you that, without exception, you could come to my church (yes, a UPC church) and you would be loved, you would belong, and you would be welcomed. Nearly 40 years and I have experienced what you have but once. It is not the feeling that the flesh deals with lightly. Your faith can be shaken. I hope that you would not characterize or make the assumptions about organizations as a whole based on these bad experiences. God Bless.

Thank you for your kind words.

My faith in God has not been shaken. My faith in church has.

I find encouragement in your words. Again, my thanks.

I would not be putting the good brother anywhere, the words of Jesus will put the good brother wherever he is going to go.

Because I understand the words of Jesus to mean a certain thing then to some I am less loving and open hearted than those who embrace a believer who has not received this truth the same way I have! Hmmmmm....who is judging whom?
I would respectfully submit that with that last statement you are clearly judging the matters of the kingdom even though you yourself admit that "the words of Jesus" are understood differently by you and others.

So if it is those "words of Jesus" that will judge us (and I believe that is the standard) how do you know that you've got it right when so many others apparently have gotten it wrong?

I believe it harmonizes the scripture better than the other explanations.

What am I to do, Pelathais, when I believe a certain doctrine is the truth especially about salvation? Do I please men or God?

If I'm wrong, have I injured anyone? If I'm right, then perhaps someone is saved.

You don't want or forsee anyone else ever starting another Pentecostal church in your city.

I really don't mean this to appear mean spirited toward those who already call their churches by this title.

I just wonder how other Pentecostal churches in those cities feel?

I can understand "The Pentecostals of Main Street (or some neighborhood)" but to make the statement that you are indeed "THE PENTECOSTALS OF NEW YORK CITY!" I don't understand it.
sir,we had two babtist churches convert to penecostal
there was already pentecostal chuches all over the pace so,they just remained babtist

Yeah, I suppose "First Church of... wherever might seem "arrogant" to some. Wotever.

A little backgrounder: The individual who started this thread is an Assemblies of God pastor not too far from the "Pentecostals of Alexandria." Seeing the "Pentecostals of... wherever" nomenclature spread over the years is what appears to have left him wondering.

My own take at the time was:

Of course, just about any pastor could probably say the same thing of his church, wherever it might be. But AM just wanted to stir his church up. Apparently it worked and folks in other places have followed the same approach with varying degrees of success.

I don't know that it's motivated by "arrogance," though acharris has a point about the way it sounds. It's just sloganeering. When done right, it's good. When copied ad nauseum it does start to wear on you.

'The First Church of Whatever' is not just a Pentecostal/UPCI thing...

I have seen 'First Church of the Nazarene' signs numerous times and never once thought they were arrogant.

It's just a church sign, for crying out loud...it's not like saying "This is the only watering hole between here and the desert."
