Paul appealed to Cesar. Thus, he used his governmental rights to protect himself.

No real problem exists over the use of "The Name" in everthing else done in the Church. Why then should there exist great controversy over the use of the "The Name of the Godhead" in water baptism?
Kevin J. Conner The Name of God p. 92
No doubt in mind that GOD could do that, but I believe God gave us a brain to protect ourselves too. Just like I'm not going to go picking up any snakes to prove God can keep me from getting bit!
There is no doubt in my mind either, Sister. I believe we all need to take steps to ensure our safety. Using Old Path's logic, none of us should have smoke detectors, CO2 detectors, locks on our doors and windows, or alarm systems, along with a gun.
Well then you're really going to think I'm crazy because I trust God to keep me while I sleep.
If something bizarre happens like what you are describing, then God is allowing it to happen like He did with Job. God is my shield. I'm not worried about nutjobs!
I trust God too. That doesn't mean He is going to swoop down out of the sky like Mighty Mouse and stop someone from hurting me.
While an attack on a family could call for immediate and tough choices, God forbid I would ever belittle or discount the one who is calling on the name of the Lord. If I had to choose only one course of action it would be, hands down, to seek God - and call on His name.
If I ever had to shoot someone, I'd be praying too. God, please don't let me miss!

I think we're talking some fine-line issues here. In the scenario of an attack on your family, would you not defend yourself at all. Where do you draw the line? Would you lay in the bed and allow whatever is to happen to happen? Or would you defend yourself with your hands? Is it wrong to throw a lamp at an intruder? What if you're able to get to a knife or a stick?
I'm just saying there is a difference in not defending yourself, choosing to defend yourself with very little weaponry, or defending yourself with the best weaponry possible.

AG, what happens if someone pulls a gun on the preacher and the preacher pulls out his own gun? someone gets hurt or even killed.
or does an usher pull out a gun? and what if bullets start flying? someone gets hurt or even killed.
What if the gun the crazy person pulls out is not loaded? and the other person shoots in self defense?
Calling on the name of the Lord is much more powerful than a gun. IMO.
I remember back in the early 90s that there was a young couple who was on a date downtown when a man appeared with a gun and demanded their money.
Immediately, the brother rebuked the spirit that controlled the robber in Jesus name and the man fell to his knees and wept. If they didn't know the Word and the power of the name of Jesus there would be no telling how that would have ended. BTW, that same couple got married and have been pastoring for several years now.
The name of the Lord would be my first choice if I was confronted with some mad man bent on hurting me, but I certainly wouldn't fault Keith for what he felt was right for him and his family.

I would call on the name of the Lord, do my best to protect my family, and pray no life is taken in the aggression.

I am a firm believer in the Old Paths
Articles on such subjects as "The New Birth," will be accepted, whether they teach that the new birth takes place before baptism in water and Spirit, or that the new birth consists of baptism of water and Spirit. - THE PENTECOSTAL HERALD Dec. 1945
"It is doubtful if any Trinitarian Pentecostals have ever professed to believe in three gods, and Oneness Pentecostals should not claim that they do." - Daniel Segraves

Therein lies the rub. All I'm saying is that it is difficult to fault a man for defending his family if the real issue is to what degree he is willing to defend his family. If I'm saying don't defend yourself, let God fight your battle, am I saying don't defend yourself at all or don't defend yourself with a weapon? I'm not sure if I'll be able to lay there and pray while someone brutalizes my family...and I'm not sure that I would not pick up a weapon...anything I could get my hands on.

so then why do you lock your doors when you go to bed at night? or maybe you don't?

Ok guys.... One person wanted to discount Keith and Jeanie and let them be the naysayer... I am sure they are confident what they are doing is right for their church that God has placed Keith as shepherd over so now....that being said
Hello!!!
Can we please get back to the topic,.... For God sake this is a prayer request thread not a debate on what kind of arms to take or not take into church...
