Piano Players Only Thread!!

This is a thread for only piano players to post! The minimum requirement is the melody of "Heart and Soul"!

Do you play mostly by ear (like a true Apostolic! ) or do you play by note?

How long have you been playing? Do you play in church?

Re: Piano Players Only Thread!!

I can compose a song knowing the melody, but I have to have the music in front of me.

Playing since I was 10. My mother was a piano teacher.

Sometimes I play in church.

Re: Piano Players Only Thread!!

I rarely sit down at the piano anymore. If I do play any keys it is usually just to add strings or synths to a recording or something like that.

I enjoy playing if I am singing but if I am just going to be jamming around I will pick up the guitar.

I mostly play by ear so I know what notes and chords I want to hit on the piano but because of my lack of practice I can't really play that good anymore.

Instead of just playing I have to actually practice for the song, but this is a technical issue not musical.

Play by ear and note. I played for church for many years and I started taking lessons when I was 5.

Yep, I remember those days. I hated to practice. I wanted to jam. I hated it!!!

I could play really good classical stuff but that wasn't going to make me popular. Finally, I just had to learn guitar.

I loved to practice, but my mother didn't like to have a lot of noise when she was finished with her lessons, so I only really practiced the most on Saturdays when she was visiting her mother. As a result of that, I never applied myself like I could have even though I love it so much.

Now, I only play when I'm in the mood and I LOVE classical music.

I never cared about playing in church. I saw too much conflict and power struggle amongst musicians and singers - not my cup of tea. It seemed like a waste of mental energy to be honest about it.

Re: Piano Players Only Thread!!

My parents bought me a piano for Christmas when I was in 4th grade, they paid for me to have lessons for about a year and a half-- until the teacher refused to teach me gospel music. I haven't read any music since that time, but God helped me learn to play just about anything I want to play by ear. It amazes my kids that I can sit down with a radio being played, and start playing whatever song is playing.... at least I could until my piano got out of tune. Now I won't play it until I can find someone to come in and tune it for me. Maybe that's what I'll tell my husband I want for our anniversary...
