Re: Is imitation the sincerest form of flattery?

Well, I don't really care about those types of things, if I found one that I happened to like for really cheap I probably would buy it, but I don't generally buy "name brands" (except when it comes to perfumes!) so it isn't a big deal to me.

My sister-in-law buys them at thrift stores a lot, and she has bought some for cheap on-line before, but they always claim to be the "real thing", so I guess there is plausible deny-ability if there was a problem. She believes they are real, I am more suspicious by nature, lol!!

I am so afraid of what people will think, that I tend to avoid name brand things, anyway.
A friend of mine buys her purses and things from Nordy's but it hurts my stomach to walk through those places! The prices are ridiculous!
I guess I just need to think a little less of what people think of me!
I actually attended one of the "purse parties" and was shocked to see what "Christians" were doing, maybe it's because I am married to an attorney, but it just seemed wrong! And I am afraid that the FBI will come after me!

Well, most people act like I am silly when I say this stuff, but I just could never spend that kind of money on a purse. I am like you, it makes me ill.

Re: Is imitation the sincerest form of flattery?

I guess i am not alone on this one then. Ha! I have never cared to buy anything that is name brand. My mom has always taught me to not portray something that I am not. Besides, i really don't see the point to it. I too feel sick looking at those prices. I could never spend so much money on clothes. I like sales ... but I dont like shopping. I go for what I am going for, don't like to stand there and look around.

My husband calls me the schizophrenic shopper, I start at the clearance rack and dart around with no rhyme or reason....

Can a Christian, in good conscience, wear or carry something that is a “knock off”?

Your opinions....
To me this is a definite no since it is illegal. I would not even attend one of these parties.

Even if it was legal, I personally would not buy one. I would just feel silly carrying or wearing a "knock off".

I don't know why but these "purse parties" are taking me back to remembering people "in church" who were watching bootleg copies of The Passion because they didn't want to sin by going to the theatre.

Sometimes a lack of clear thinking in areas of ethics and the law makes me shake my head.

That is soooo funny, a couple of years ago my Grandma sent us a PIRATED copy of the The Passion for Christmas... I told my husband, there has to be a BAD punishment for people who steal Jesus on His birthday

I didn't know what kind of party it was, I thought someone was selling "purses", not illegal ones! As soon as I saw the name brands I was shocked! Needless to say, she didn't get any of my money, and I knew the police were just gonna come barrelling through the door at any minute!

They didn't, but I lost a lot of respect for the host.
