One year, the church ladies were insistent that we have a bake sale. I was against it but went along. We had plenty of baked goods but only one volunteer to help me. When we got to the store, they had someone else selling because they forgot we were coming. They apologized and we still set up a table and didn't sell hardly anything and I spent most of the time there selling alone. I said to my husband I'd rather take up a collection and people can throw in ten bucks!

Re: How to Save Money
Evaporated Milk
1 1/2 cups warm water
1 cup powdered milk
2 tablespoons butter
Mix powdered milk and warm water together. Add butter. In a small pan, heat mixture together. Beat well, cool, and store in the refrigerator.

Oh goodness! One year when money was especially tight, my dad would go dumpster diving at Foodtown every night. Then we'd keep what was good. And the rest he would take out and feed to our pigs. We bought very little pig food that year and ended up with some mighty fine hams, bacon and pork roasts because of the Foodtown dumpsters

Re: How to Save Money
For very inexpensive breakfast eat oatmeal or farina (generic Malt-O-Meal). Buy the oatmeal or farina in bulk and add brown sugar to taste. Or if you like chocolate malt o meal, add cocoa and sugar to the farina.

I have not been dumpster diving but I would certainly do so if need be. I had a book on dumpster diving and told my family I was not planning on it for which they all thanked me profusely. People are strange though. Something that was on the shelf yesterday is suddenly poison because a date passed and someone put it into a dumpster. It is poisonous and horrible suddenly even though it may be perfectly packaged and still frozen. But then, people say my thought process is a little different.

I could tell some stories... If I were not too embarrassed!
I was only the "driver" though!
