Or that generation was just more committed to sticking it out because they made the vow. It saddens me to see so many couples that do not love/honor each other - - they are just bidding their time because they have to. It shouldn't be like that.

THe UPC didn't exist until 1945, lol. Before that, the problem may not have existed

Seriously, there was tremendous pressure on my generation to marry within the church.

Yes, I agree.

Sheesh, how old do you think I am?

I wasn't in church when I got married, so I guess I missed a lot.

Well, there ya go!

I don't see the pressure as much now as it was when I was a teen.

Oh, I know that there was the be not unequally yoked thing. But church was really the place you met people that were acceptable. Even in other denominations I think.

I'm reminded of once when my grandpa tried to claim that illicit sex, marital affairs, teenage sex, divorce, etc...'just didn't happen when i was growing up' and tried to act like the world was going to hell in a handbasket today. My grandma started laughing outloud and laughed until she cried. She said, "Doc, are you smokin' crack? All that was going on when we were growing up! It was just hidden and not talked about. Get real!". hahaha!

I think they really tried to hide things like that from children then. I was not implying it didn't happen, just that I didn't know about it when I was a kid.
