Re: JP Don't Forget

Ah... Thank you, Ferd!

So, Sandra is VY? I thought her picture looked familiar. My wife and I are good friends with a couple that new her from the Alexandria church. My first encounter with VH was hearing her "bring the house down" singing "Amen" at their Messiah production back in '96!

What a small world.

I'm VERY disappointed that I won't have the chance on this side of eternity to meet Jim. He sounds like an impressive man. Dialogue is important - whether we all agree or not, being able to express what we think is an important part of growth and maturity.

Thanks for the information.

This thread wasn't started for one quote.

this thread certainly had its launching pad from a particular quote.... none the less, so long as the mob understands that those who generally get the blame for such things were not the ones making the comments you take issue with my purpose is served.

Re: JP Don't Forget

I've hung around since FCF....

Bro. Yohe is the reason, not only for AFF, but GNC, JP, CAF, Synadelfos, Apostolicministersforum, and whatever else is out there.

He really brought everyone together to talk.

I've enjoyed the "mix" and true picture of what is considered the "Apostolic world"

We've found out (since FCF) that Apostolic means different things to different people.

IMO, there were a few phrases posted, the last few days, that again IMO Jim would not have agreed with and not permitted.

I remember heated debates but mutual respect during the debates.
That doesn't always seem to happen (the mutual respect) anymore.

I think there's a way to post, debate, not agree, poke a little fun, but at the end of the day still be respectful for differing views.

There was a forum, pre Jim Yohe that was very similar but probably not nearly as well known. It was called Higher-Fire. It was my first forum. I started posting there in 1996. There were also a few other smaller ones. I think FCF was a bit different as it was led by a UPC minister who was a definite progressive. He was willing to speak out and I think his boldness made a difference.

Re: JP Don't Forget

CPastor I agree.

And that respect needs to be flowing both ways.

AFF is more tolerant than many like and maybe it has hurt us at times, but I think we can all learn to get along if we put the effort forth.

I just wish the point could be accepted that just because something is discussed here doesn't mean the owners/admins approve or disapprove. We have stated the AFF Apostolic Definitions and we stand behind it.

We are here to keep the peace not censor what is being discussed.

No, it was two threads - not just one quote. However, what you are speaking of did prompt me to ask the question about Jim Yohe.

I think lack of censorship is crucial, even if it causes some tussles. Freedom of speech is how we learn and grow. I would rather admin was cautious on the side of lenient than chasing down every complaint. Not only would that be ridiculous, it would stifle discussion and burn out the admin.

David Hartman:

Quote:
"A monolithic framework does not create a critical mind. Where there is only one self-evident truth, nothing ever gets challenged and no sparks of creativity ever get generated. The strength of America has always been its ability to challenge its own truths by presenting alternative possibilities. That forces you to justify your own ideas, and that competition of ideas is what creates excellence".
