I wouldn't give the pastor much trouble, he might just shoot you.

Re: YeeHaw! My hometown has a Cowboy Church!
I am not sure about the doctrinal issues. I think it is a place some rural people might feel more comfortable.
My daughter-in-law attended one before she married my son. They now attend a Baptist church here in town.

I get the impression that they're mostly non-denominational.

Re: YeeHaw! My hometown has a Cowboy Church!
Harry Yates and his wife Joanne Cash Yates (Johnny Cash's sister), founders of the Nashville Cowboy Church, were good friends of the Apostolic church in my hometown in Saskatchewan. They preached and sang many times in our church and at local evangelistic events during the 1980s and '90s.
Doctrinally, Harry and Joanne are Trinitarian as far as I know (although there is no mention of the Trinity in their church's statement of faith). They definitely believe in the baptism of the Holy Ghost and speaking in tongues.

Y'all had trinity folks preaching, singing, and holding revivals in an Apostolic Church?

'Tis true, Sam.
Not only that, Harry Yates also performed the ceremony when one of the pastors got married. No baptisms, though, as far as I know.
A few years later, I was back at that church, serving on staff as an intern minister. I knew things had swung way out of whack after watching the adult Sunday school teacher tell his class that belief in the Trinity was essential to salvation. After hearing that, and reading AOG Sunday school literature used in the church (opposing Oneness beliefs), I conducted a presentation on Apostolic doctrinal distinctives for all the teachers.
The adult Sunday school teacher came around to a new way of thinking soon afterward.

No carpet to worry about so go ahead and bring the dog....
Are those coffee cups or spit cups... in Texas who could know?
Observations:
Doctrinally they are trinitarian with a believe whatever you want just don't cause trouble twist.
I gotta say I LIKE the relaxed come as you are thing. The whole stuffed shirt suit and tie formality thing is something I do because iot is expected but find it tiresome.
The only good reason to wear a jacket is because it is cold. There is no good reason to wear a tie. Ever.
I do think it might be difficult to get to a point of worship while petting the dog and sipping coffee. I had heard of this group but it looks like it is getting bigger accross the country.
There are no cowboy churches in Connecticut. That does not surprise me.
Any of you folks encountered these people? Observations?
|
Two observations:
1. Shouldn't you say Hee Haw instead of YeeHaw?
2. It doesn't appear like the cowboy thing is real popular. If you join I think you will have increased their membership by 10%

Re: YeeHaw! My hometown has a Cowboy Church!
I am with you on the whole suit and tie thing. THANK GOD our pastor has come to see the light also. Now we do not have any dogs attending, I am sure if a blind person came with their seeing eye dog there might be one but so far that hasn't happened.
I love the relaxed atmosphere of being able to wear jeans and short sleeved shirt. Our worship did not deminish as a matter of fact our pastor seems to think it increased.
