As some may disagree with you here, I know what you are saying. I wasn't living for God when I worked for a law firm. They were going to send me to law school and make me a partner.

I worked for two criminal lawyers. One of our clients was a police officer who was caught during a drug raid keeping some of the paraphernalia. We took his case and defended him. He would drop by the office and even offered to pay me to keep him apprised of the case so that he could slip away to Mexico and not be jailed. Of course, I didn't get involved in that. I certainly wasn't going to jail for a police officer that couldn't follow his own rules and keep the law himself!

Having said that, I realized that I could not do this type of job. The man was guilty, was caught and we were looking for technicalities to lessen his time or even get him off. Not working for me!

Being a defense lawyer doesn't mean you have to lie, or try to get a guilty person off scot-free. You just have to try to get them a fair trial.
He didn't say that! He just thinks the lawyer shouldn't be a Christian!

You called a foul ball, umpire, but you haven't yet shown the line to determine if it is foul or not. You failed to address the question, what consequences do you give an adult?

Sorry you had that experience PO.

Also sorry you had that misunderstanding of what the SYSTEM is about.

I personally never crossed a line, on either side, did my job (prosecutor and defense) with passion, compassion and honor.

What is being said is tantamount to stating it is impossible to be filled with the Holy Ghost and be an effective defense attorney.

I would of course disagree, and in a very rare departure from my public persona offer myself as an example.

There are unethical people in every line of work. That doesn't mean the entire profession is unethical.

You could say that there are way too many unethical defense lawyers, and you'd probably be correct. Which creates an even greater need for Christian defense lawyers.

True. A crook must have a crook for an attorney.

I'm sure there are bad experiences to be had in any profession. The tragedy of bad experiences in the legal profession is that sometimes it is a life or death situation.

That being said, I have a few questions...

In layman's terms, what is due process?!

What are the rules of conduct ensuring that due process has been achieved?!

Can an attorney refuse to represent someone whom they know or believe to be guilty...let's say a rapist is caught in the act or a man is arrested with the bloody knife in his hand and the dead man at his feet?!

Re: Tattoos-What do ya think?

Isn't due process just that all legal rights have been given to that individual?

Here is a link to a some history on the due process clause.

One of my friends likes to say, "Everyone is entitled to a defense, but everyone is not entitled to my defense."

As a rule attorneys can refuse any case, though in court appointed work this might be somewhat questionable though it is still available it is more difficult to withdraw. One is never required to accept a case.

Your ignorance amazes me still....

Now, imagine if I were to be rude about something you believe would it be the same concept? Now I know you think it's funny, but since I have gone to school many years learning this one subject and have seen irrefutable evidence, it is something I have internalized and believe....

So, lets test this... I put up with a lot rude disrespectful stuff from you benincasa and if I were to return the favor about your beliefs I am sure I would immediately receive a reprimand. So quit being childish and quit beating a dead horse... there is no humor in something like that and it is far from an inside joke.

Unless you want to rehash the old debate, I suggest you move on like an adult and quit making snide jabs about something that is clearly a sensitive subject for both of us.
