I'm glad you clarified about the serpents.

LOL!!!!

Personally, I don't think that should be purposeful, anymore than we should purposely make people (or ourselves) sick in order to demonstrate God's healing power. BUT, I believe if I pick up a deadly serpent (like Paul, pulling his hand out of the fire with a viper attached), God will deliver me, and if I drink any deadly thing (like tainted water?), it won't hurt me.

That's where snake handlers err. They're purposely creating situations in which to test God's power. Completely out of context!

Re: Why Such A Fuss Over Standards!!

Why the fuss?

Simple, Jesus told the Pharisees that why do you "clean" the "outside" & leave the inside corrupt?

Matthew 23:25Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.
26Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.

God is concerned about the outside!

God's concerned about the INSIDE. Because he knows that when the inside is right, the outside will follow. So it seems to me that there should be a lot more preaching about what's inside of us, not outside. In too many places, it's backwards.

What if that just means that it is normative for the overall Christian experience collectively but not individually?

It first "Starts" on the inside, you are correct!
I was just pointing out God is concerned with the outside as well!

Bro. Ron,
The "fuss" was partly TIC , and because of the numerous "standards"
threads lately. Also wanted to create some interest. Did it ever!
