the man was wearing a backpack...how well dressed, well to do man we are not told, but he was wearing a backpack
He was seen by a neighbor PRYING the front door open.
The house was RECENTLY burglarized
The Cops were only told it was a break in. They were not told it was being broken into by the owner.
think about it. They have to do an investigation and ASSUME there might have been a break in IN PROGRESS...if that is the case they can't NOT be cautious. It could mean their life.
What does a backpack have to do with the going rate of Wal-mart stock on the Dow Jones?? I wear a backpack everyday to my office (It's Hurley...pretty cool, actually).

Theyll get the chip off when so many white folks stop discriminating, fearing, start allowing, start worshipping with, stop following in stores, start marrying, stop walking on the other side of the street, stop putting the entire minority group in 1 house while the white kids go 2 by 2 to other homes while ministering in a Louidiana church, stop coos from stopping them for no reason, oh yeah, in your world, this doesn't occur, that stopped 150 years ago, riiiight, your post makes me puke CC!

CC1 has been nice to me and I don't want to burn any bridges, but....
Monkeyman, I just stood in my living room and gave you a standing ovation. Every single point you made...worship with, follow in stores, MARRYING, etc., you are AWESOME!!!
When I first moved to the city you grew up in, it was my first culture shock after spending my life in an all-white town. I wasn't shocked at the presence of people who didn't look like me, I was shocked at the way that the people who looked like me, treated those who didn't.
I had memorized most of "I have a dream" in high school and thought that stuff was all gone. Your home town taught me that it wasn't gone at all.
Again, standing ovation.

No doubt such places exist, all over the world too; but maybe I'm just blessed. Around here skin color truly doesn't matter for the vast, vast majority of people - especially the "people who look like me." Where I do encounter racism, and have encountered it all my life was from within the "minority community." I usually just took that as being some remnant of an old "chip on the shoulder" from a very ugly past history.
Our state government actually had to call out the National Guard and "invaded" the capital city which was in the control of the Klan back in the 1920's. That was long before my time, but I still like to remind the Democrats around here how the Republican govenor had to step in with troops to straighten out the Democratic party.
My wife's great-uncle was burned alive by a mob of Klansmen in another state back in the 1960's. Ironically, I have seen her cousins face some discrimination from fellow African Americans because they are "not Black enough." They have gotten it from all sides.

Understood. I think what Monk is going goofy about (and what gets me in constant knock-down drag-outs with people) is this...there seems to be an opinion among SOOO many white people that racism is a part of history and NOT a part of our present world. I have a very close friend who is a black doctor who has taught me SOOO much about the "real world."
AND....the common opinion is, "their ok as long as you don't date them." Yes of course inter-racial marriages can catch it from both sides. But CLEARLY we (caucasian) are the majority race and bear the responsibility in this country to create a level playing field. I'm one of the crazies that actually supports Affirmative Action ESPECIALLY in the education system. And those who are furious when a white man misses out on a job opportunity when a company needs to meed a "quota"? If you miss out on an employment opportunity because you are white, we still have about 200 years of favoring the African-American community to even things up.
This subject seems to be close to you and in your family. I'd be interested in your ethnic heritage and your wife, but if you'd rather not share you can just ignore my inquiry.

Last week I had a business lunch in the town of Pulaski, TN which is the birthplace of the KKK. The two guys I had lunch with said that the clan still occasionally has a demonstration in the town square but it is just a handful of people and that 99.9% of the population thinks they are nuts. Even in this town with such a horrid past I think the black population is now around 20% and the races get along fine. Racism will never be done away with 100% but for 21st century Black folks to act like they are suffering the same kind of injustices their ancestors endured is absurd yet many of them do it.
When liberal white folks eat up with guilt excuse any and all bad behaviour because someone's ancestors were treated badly it is not doing those people any favors. To continue to excuse many of them seeing everything that happens to them through the race card does them no favors.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.
"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.
"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Race can be the ugliest of all discussions. That's why I skipped over it repeatedly.
No one is saying it isn't better. It is. But it's still a HUGE problem. See the study referred to in post #130.
I had a African-American man (Sunday School Teacher and Church Deacon) in Alabama tell me that racism is WORSE now than in the 60's. I asked him, "How is that???" and he said, "At least in the 60's when they wore white hoods, we KNEW who the racists were. Now it's not cool to be a racist but we still don't get the jobs."
I just see a lot of white people on this thread telling black people how they should feel and how they should think and I thought that was incredibly unfair.

Stewie, I understood that he was arrested for disorderly conduct. This charge and arrest was the result of action after the initial contact and ID check.
Basically, he ticked the cops off. He kept after them. Even the African-American cop who was photographed at the scene said he was "100%" in support of the arrest.
Cops do have the discretion to arrest and/or hold someone who is being "disruptive." The photo of the scene seems to show the prof was at least being loud. But once the arrest is made, the local DA has the discretion to throw the whole thing out - and that's what happened.
If we agree that the cops were within their rights to question and ask for ID - and I think we are, then the whole case is moot - except that the prof didn't want to leave it at that. Perhaps he felt offended and belittled by the circumstance? Dunno. But he pushed back at the cops and triggered his own arrest. And even then, his "push back" was considered of such an inconsequential nature that the DA threw the whole thing out. So, it's hard to say the prof was the "bad guy" either.
It was just some local thing where cooler heads needed to prevail. It never should have involved the President of the United States.
Pel, my point is that a police report is not always an objective, unbiased account of police behavior. I do believe that most often, they are an accurate account, but I also know that whenever police behavior is questionable, it is not always best to accept the nature and tone of the officers' own report as always gospel truth. They are human like evryone else.
That being said, my observation is that even in the officer's own report, he states that the professor had presented photo ID, yet the officer continued to remain in the house and call for back-up. If the professor was irate and not really happy about the officer being there in the first place, why continue to detain him in his house and call for back-up after he produced his ID?
I know that you believe that the officer was just quiet and deeply respectful as the professor berated him, but I think that they both were probably a bit upset by that point. The one thing that I agree with the President about is that cooler heads should have prevailed.

With the advent of darwinism The atheistic group of liberals had brought on new hedonism. With it came what \Darwin painted as humans coming from creatures and in his case he claimed to be further evolved.
