Angry Obama escalating war

People’s Republic of Cambridge War on civility

Any request for additional U.S. forces would require touchy discussions with the White House and lawmakers. President Barack Obama approved a surprise addition of 4,000 U.S. trainers earlier in the spring, after his larger announcement of 17,000 combat troops, and administration and military officials had been signaling that further additions were unlikely for now.

Current forces include 62,000 U.S. troops and 39,000 allied troops.

Historic. Mike. wazzup with this?

The additions Obama has already approved will bring the U.S. presence to about 68,000 by the end of the year. That is roughly double the size of the U.S. force when Obama took office.

Take out WMD's?

This is what hypocrits do. They promise one thing and then do the opposie.

Re: Obama escalating war

KABUL (Reuters) - A U.S. service member was killed as the deadliest month for foreign troops in the Afghanistan war drew to a close, the U.S. military said on Friday, with commanders vowing to continue the fight despite the toll.

The death in southern Afghanistan brought to 40 the number of U.S. troops killed in July, by far the heaviest monthly toll in the 8-year-old war. The worst previous month for U.S. forces was in September 2008, when 26 were killed.

The latest death occurred in a firefight with insurgents in southern Afghanistan on Thursday, the U.S. military said, without giving further details. At least 70 foreign troops have been killed in July.

Britain has suffered its worst battlefield casualties since the 1980s Falklands War, with the 22 troops killed in the month taking its total losses in Afghanistan to 191, 12 more than were killed in the Iraq war.

Did Obama promise to take troops out of Afghanistan?

Obama proposed a plan in January that called for troops to begin withdrawing in May and for the removal of all combat brigades by March 31, 2008

"They have said that they recognize the surge is not working the way it should and it is time for us to have a change of course," Obama said

Re: Obama escalating war

Reporting from Kabul, Afghanistan -- The pace of American combat deaths in Afghanistan has quickened anew as roadside bombs killed five U.S. troops in 24 hours in the same western province, the American military said Thursday.

The deaths bring to 11 the number of American troops killed in Afghanistan so far in August, on the heels of what was the worst month for Western and U.S. troop fatalities since the conflict began in 2001. Forty-three American military personnel died in July.

Re: Obama escalating war

Coadie once again you don't clearly understand an issue and need some help. President Obama didn't campaign or promise to reduce troop levels in Afghanistan. He made it clear that due to the Bush administration's neglect of the al-qaeda in Afghanistan, troop levels there would have to be increased to keep the Taliban and al-qaeda from retaking Afghanistan.

The desire of the majority of the country and represented by Pres. Obama was for the war in Iraq to be ended. Thus the pull-out date for next year in Iraq.

You're posts are constantly full of inaccuracies and blatant lies so it comes as no surprise, but I figured even you knew the difference between two different countries and theaters of war coadie.

I most definately did not vote for Obama, but you are correct. He did not campain on leaving Afghanistan, rather leaving Iraq and ascribing Iraq to Bush (i.e. Failure) to where the real war should be, Afghanistan. Both were and are wrong policies. Americans have absolutly no business over there in these foriegn entanglements.
We have no friend(s) in the world worth this much American capital, both financially and reputation/respect. None! There is not one country on Earth that we sould sacrifice our God given freedoms in exchange for any of their existences above our own. None!
Not even that one country we own so much to, England.

I agree with you Bowas. It's time to let the rest of the world deal with their problems. It's not our responsibility to spread hope and freedom to the world. It makes a great soaring oratory piece, but it's not our military's place.

I do think that Afghanistan was a justified war given that's where the perpetrators of 9/11 were given the protection to train for it. The Taliban rulers of the country were supporting their efforts and al-qaeda's training camps had to be closed.

It's now at a point that if we were to simply pull out, the Taliban could retake the country and reestablish a base of operations for al-qaeda.

The connection with al-qaeda and Iraq, on the other hand, was only in the messed up minds of the Neo-cons of the Bush administration.
