I wish I could use this inside the homes as well, but you're right, it's not wide enough. I can usually take pics and 'stitch' them together, but it's a pain. Wish I just had a wide angle lens. And a nice flash, one that bounces the light off the ceilings & walls, right?
Got any good recommendations that won't cost an arm & leg, & hip, & kidney?
OK, I do have a lens recommendation. I just got it myself and have fallen in love with it this past week. It is the Canon F1.4 50mm. You can get it from Amazon or Newegg (or RITZ camera, but they will charge 150-200 more then the other places). This is a Prime lens, meaning it has a fixed zoom range (50mm) and thus can be a little frustrating when you first use it, but that feeling goes away fast when you see some of the pictures it is capable of. It still takes a bit of skill in dialing in the correct manual setting but once you do, it takes pictures worthy of a pro. In fact, the pro's DO use this lens quite a bit, especially for portraits. The F1.4 refers to the F Stop spec, which is how wide/fast it is. On the Rebel it is the Av setting on the dial. The lower the number, the more light it lets in -this allows for much faster shutter speeds but also makes the range of focus MUCH narrower. Anything ahead or behind the object your focused on will be increasingly OUT of focus.
Being able to dial it all the up down (or up ) to 1.4 is VERY nice. Again, the depth of focus gets extremely narrow at that range, but you can take pictures in places, without a flash, that you never could before. It also helps to turn the ISO up to max or near max in really dim areas as well.

Shallow depth of field isn't always bad! In fact, it's usually good, drawing attention to the intended subject. The pic of the black and white dog is a good example.

Really nice pics on this thread Randy! Also, thanks for starting this.
I fancy myself an amateur artist. I dabble in sculpting, paints--acrylic, watercolor, but have been too intimidated and lazy to play with the oils (recently bought a fresh canvas though)!
I'm really just as happy with a pencil. I could only find two pics in my email (posting from work here), so maybe I can upload more later.
I know some say comic art is no higher on the totem pole than graffiti, but I simply can't help myself ( Jim Lee). Here is a freehand of Tarzan (used myself as a reference ), and I also included an art project done "sfumato" style.

Beautiful!! What a great gift! I've often wondered what it would be like to sit down with a piece of paper and create something like that. Wow...really nice!

I enjoy reading as a hobby and playing and listening to music.
