I meant the word "you" to be generic meaning "anyone". I apologize for not wording it better.
I don't question that God speaks to his people, I question why people are quick to say "God told me". I believe the reason is because it gives their ideas or decisions more spiritual weight. After all, who can disagree with God?
I just think that a more humble approach is to say, "I feel that the Lord is telling me.." or "I feel in my spirit that.."
In other words, OWN the idea or decision! It may indeed be God helping someone make a choice, but why name drop to give it more spiritual clout?
I would bet that even you question anyone who claims that God told them something if their thoughts or decisions are not agreeable to you! This is my point. Who really knows?
Am I wrong if I accept everyone who says that God told them something? I think so, because it would lead to mass confusion.
Am I wrong if I reject everyone who says that God told them something? I think you must measure it with the written word of God, then judge. Sometimes a word from God is not what you want to hear, but you will know it's God.
I'm not saying that I've perfected the art of deciding whether a "word from God: is indeed a word from God. I've been right on some, and wrong on others.
And a Word from the Lord may be to the individual and not the congregation.
Personally, I know when I feel something in my inner beings. It's not a voice, but a knowing...

God puts bad leaders in place too, people get what they vote for. I guess if we were living under Ahab and Jezzie, we would all be comforted by the fact that God put him there.

I was hoping for James Griffin.
My only point is just because God puts them in place doesn't mean that they are good for the position or the organization, it just means God gave them what they wanted. Too many people use that to say well if they are there then they must be the best person for the job because God put them there.
