Re: Honky Postal Workers

She brings it to the door, rings the bell, and hands it to me. Guess that makes her a "dingy postal worker".

Dingy rhyming with stringy (not stingy).

Brings it to the door, knocks and hands the package to me. If we are not home, they leave it on the porch.

As a Caucasian of Bohemian descent I want to go on record as saying that I find this whole thread offensive, narrow minded, stereotypical and bigoted.

Bohemians are NOT "unwashed." The Czech Republic (Classical and Medieval Bohemia) is known to be one of the cleanest and most sanitary countries in the world.

And the whole "honky" thing is just deplorable.

Our postal workers just fire off a few rounds at the house to let us know they've been by.

I've never mentioned this before because I didn't want to appear to be type casting all postal employees as gun toting workers with a tendency to "go postal." There's enough stereotyping going on around here as it is.

But in answer to your question, I don't think that is actually Post Office policy, if you called you local office directly and complained about it, they would probably change. I think it is something that they see if they can get away with, most people won't tkae the time to complain.

I did at my office, our box is out at the road, and they were doing that all the time (w/out even honking). I called and complained, because their pick-up hours are the same as our office hours, so that meant someone had to leave the office during business hours to go pick up the package. I made a fuss, and it hasn't happened since. Doesn't hurt to try!
I thought the same thing!

Out here, we're the ones with the guns.

Is this a common practice with mail delivery where you are?
My mail lady does the same thing!!!! I hate it! She honks, and if we don't run out and catch her quickly enough, she leaves us the note, and we have to drive all the way into town to pick it up at the PO. Very annoying.
