Actually, this is EXACTLY what I said: "but I do see a disturbing trend in UPC and like churches where the pastor is anything but a servant and is more like a King than anything else."
The UPC doesn't have a corner on the market of this type activity, but I wonder how many posters have seen it. I've been to literally 100's of UPC churches over the years and have seen it MANY times! I've also seen it in AOG, COGIC, PAW church as well, which was my point.
Interesting defense against the "broad brushing" accusation. Your brush is extra broad!
(Oh, and as I've said before: sometimes, the right tool for the job is a broad brush! )

When I was originally ordained in the UPC, Huss Shearer was the Dist. Supt. I distinctly remember, and still have it, being given a towel with my name embroidered on it as a symbol of my calling. I've never forgotten that and it is what I preach and teach about leadership.
It really disturbs me when I see HUGE chairs on platforms, HUGE pictures of the pastor in the church and the church being Bro. so and so's church and it becoming a family business etc. Not saying that DKB, sees it that way, but I do see a disturbing trend in UPC and like churches where the pastor is anything but a servant and is more like a King than anything else. Certainly not all, and I'm not trying to paint with a broad brush, but I've seen far too much it where the people are expected to serve the pastor instead of the other way around,

Dimples - you do realize that MOW is no longer a part of the UPC, don't you.... he hasn't been for many years.....

BTW, Sweet Pea, I do agree with this. "Installation" would be the better term. Maybe that could be changed in the title thread.
If I was an admin, I'd take care of that - but since I'm not......

OK- I did not mean to stir up any trouble! I got an invitation to the installation/inauguration service ( I am not at home so I cannot check on the correct term), but I am unable to attend. I would like to watch it on the Internet if it is web-cast. Just trying to find out if I am going to be able to view it. \
MOW- I am a member of the UPC, but I do agree with you about what I call the "franchise" attitude that many pastors have about their churches -and I appreciate your servants attitude.
I have come to realise that the UPC and many other minister's organizations are just that a minister's organization, the saints are not included.
I did not intend for this to be a UPC or DKB bashing thread - I have the utmost respect for DKB.

I don't think it's a bashing thread, but we do have opinions. I, likewise, respect DKB. I have also preached in the UPC church founded by his father in S. Korea. BTW, it is still a UPC church pastored by a wonderful man of God and dear friend of mine!

Great post, and I agree completely. Our pastor sits with his wife on the front row during all parts of the service, except when he is to speak. We just celebrated a surprise 25 year anniversary of their leadership this past Sunday, they are deeply respected and the church gave great honor to their leadership.
They know that they are human and they refuse to be lifted up as being super spiritual or above the body. They are members of a Life Group and are in community with that Group, "...he that would be great, let him be the servant of all..." comes to mind. This is true of pastor, and of every member of the body.
I am not bashing the UPC or any other group, I believe alot is changing for the good, in many groups. I will bash the thrones on stage, no matter whose stage they are on, this disrespects the body as a whole.
