"in the name of the Lord" or "in the name of Jesus Christ" etc mean "as authorized by the Lord" or "by His authority."

We actually have no record in our Bibles of what words (if any) were spoken when the baptismal ritual was done.

We ASSUME that since it was done in the Lord's name/authority, that the name was actually spoken.

So if I was simply baptized in the name of the Lord would I be saved?

Some one asked the Lord who He was one time and He said who He is.
That's found in Acts 9:5 in some Bibles.

Who is your Lord? Why not take his name in baptism instead of a title? Jesus is my lord and I have taken his name in baptism.....as instructed.

Because thats how the gentiles did it in Acts 10:48 and I'm a gentile.

Who is your Lord? The name of the Lord was not in debate..and it says in Acts in the name of the Lord Jesus also...Do you really believe in being baptized "in the name of the Lord" without using his name Jesus?

Theology not a factor? Good grief.

I think I know what JT meant. Theology is a broad field that only some take the time in their life to study. The rest glean crumbs and pieces from others that we call teachers. The fact is, theological illiteracy in our churches would be shocking. We aren't saved by theology, as a general concept. We are saved by Jesus, by faith in Him, by believing He is who He said He was. Our salvation is a Spirit-enabled moment, not a classroom.

There are certainly things we can believe that are not correct, and depending on what they are, they can distort our view of Jesus, our faith in general and even lead us to destruction.

However, the Text you use about being "Approved by God" isn't about God thinking we are good enough for salvation by how much we study. It's basically saying "do your best for God, work you won't be ashamed of, handling truth. It's not about being "accepted" by God, it's about doing work for God as one ALREADY approved.
