Interesting. Most of our pioneers of Pentecost wore beards. Had to be sometime after them then...
Maybe during the clean-shaved decade of the 50's? Of course, clean shaven was a worldy look.
King George V of the United Kingdom had a handsome beard and 'stache. When he was the Prince of Wales he was the ultimate fashion trend setter in the Western world. Upon taking the throne in 1911, his son Edward (the future Edward VIII) became the "playboy" Prince and proceeded to set fashion trends in his own time.
George is on the left. His son Edward is on the right. Edward would continue as the Prince of Wales from 1911, until he ascended to the throne in 1936 - for 25 years. It was during this time that the OP movement was coalescing and developing it's "distinctives." Simultaneously, "the world's" fashions went through some remarkable changes as well with beards falling out of fashion.
I believe that if Azusa Street had happened twenty years earlier, then beards on men would be the norm among Apostolic Pentecostals today and the "clean shaven" face would be decried as a symbol of "worldliness" and the effemination of men.

Not sure how we got off on beards. Let me say this, beards is an issue that we could argue about till the cows come home. We can't look to history to support our philosophy. We must examine the Bible. According to the Bible, if you're going to wear a beard, you must allow it to grow without trimming it at all.

Joel chapter 2 and verse 1
Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand;

OK, so that's one of those Old Testament commands that still applies today? Like not mixed types of material in clothing, and stoning rebellious children?

I've had to stone two so far. And that mixed clothing...don't get me started.

Were you kidding about the beards? Hard to tell, sometimes.
I think that there are more important issues to talk about. The hair that grows on a man's face is not a sin.

Now the spirit with which he wears it could be a snare to him. Would you agree?
