It certainly SEEMS that way, and settling will only further that perception in the mind of unbelievers. Even if "Christians" maintain his innocence, no doubt his credibility and influence is 9and should be) destroyed amongst unbelievers.
I can have alot more respect for someone who comes out and says "I did it, it was wrong, etc." Than someone who hides behind lies. Even the world is forgiving of those who admit their faults (on their own admission, not after being exposed), e.g. Roger Clemens/Andy Pettite.
