I wonder if he will ever lead any marches, or preach against homosexuality, again?
It certainly SEEMS that way, and settling will only further that perception in the mind of unbelievers. Even if "Christians" maintain his innocence, no doubt his credibility and influence is 9and should be) destroyed amongst unbelievers.

I can have alot more respect for someone who comes out and says "I did it, it was wrong, etc." Than someone who hides behind lies. Even the world is forgiving of those who admit their faults (on their own admission, not after being exposed), e.g. Roger Clemens/Andy Pettite.

What does the Bible have to say about folks who are hungry for gossip?

Is it wrong to desire to know the dirt on your brothers and sisters?

Is it wrong to desire to know the dirt on your leaders?

I can't think of the appropriate, "Thou shall not... ," but something inside me convicts me when I find myself going after the dirt on other professing Christians.

I think it's wrong, but don't really know why.

It all comes down to intent I think. For example, what Charn brought up can have far reaching consequences - far beyond just knowing "the dirt". I would go so far as to say that anyone who is involved in any way has a responsibility and a duty to know as much of the evidence they can about it. Especially court evidence.

I agree.

However, the situations under discussion pertain to the sexual expotation of minors by men in high positions of spiritual authority. That's vastly different than consnsual relations-no matter how immoral- between adults.

These men masquerade as spiritual leaders over thousands. Many of their decisions were influenced by their sin.

They have never confessed. Instead, they continue to lie, and impugn the victims of their lust.

The church has an obligation to root them out. If we do not, we are no better than the Catholic bishops who, for years, covered up the abuse their priests meted out on innocent young men.

I agree with what you say, but like King David we keep on trying to cover it up by sending Uriah home then having him when killed when he wouldn't go home to his wife. It wasn't until after a prophet came and gave David a word from the Lord that David repented.

And under our NT application of prophecy, we do not allow anything judgmental.

LOL

"Ought to go to jail for what?"

He has not been arrested and charged with any crime. What should he go to jail for? No one has accused him of a crime.
Do you think this is funny? This is a man - a human being with a wife and a family and a church and thousands of people that look to him for guidance.
These are young men that have families that will grow and mature and one day say what in the world have I done. This is not funny, this is horrible and very serious.
I hope to God somebody - Maybe Bishop Jakes or Pastor Dollar but somebody will get ahold of him and talk some sense into his head.
We have so many scandals here in Atlanta and the news media admits to chasing down these young men - all in their 20's - and offering them anything to tell them their story. These guys have already made MAJOR money with their stories and it ain't over yet! The whole thing is SAD and reproach on the Church and ministry here. These young men want to make money and lots of it. The book deal is not going to do that for them - they better take what Bishop has offered and move on down the road.

I guess Preachers with a decent amount of resources need to hire a body guard.
that way they never meet with anyone alone without a witness present.
This body guard could also act as a personal assistant.
