Specifically regarding your post, I don't think it's about God "promising the affections of another" in the sense of thwarting the free will of a third party. It's more about God revealing someone's future to them. Of course He knows whether or not that *third* someone eventually will have affection for a person, so if He wanted to reveal that then of course He could.

I've always thought that some things come by the gift of discernment and some by the gift of suspicion.
