StMark, once it gets that far, I think its probably too far gone. But in the case I mentioned earlier...perhaps an addiction to porn led to deeper and darker desires that could have been eradicated or avoided if he had received help earlier on? I don't know...I'm just surmising.
If one of my friends confessed to some dark inclination, I would not immediately disassociate from them. I would pray for them and with them and encourage them to get professional help. Now, would I let them babysit my children? No. And if they are being honest, that should be understandable. Additionally, if I noticed they were hanging around children or participating in situations potentially dangerous to children, then I would probably turn them in. (If a strong suggestion to the contrary was ignored.)
