Re: Harrassed & Detained For Carrying Cash @ Airpo
I guess I'm coming from the perspective of someone who has had to answer these same sorts of questions at traffic stops as a result of profiling. Was it a bit aggravated? Yes. Did I recognize I was being profiled? Yes. However, each situation ended very quickly with the police immediately realizing that there was nothing illegal about me. They were courteous, addressed me as "sir", and in one instance gave me directions. If I had been vague or uncooperative to prove a point, it would have made for some long evenings.
Travelling with cash stashed away does fit a profile. Being vague and uncooperative exasperates it. I'm just saying that we can either be opposed to profiling or not, but we have to be consistent. I don't think we can embrace profiling for some and then get all worked up when we discover that there are profiles that we may fit into.
