Are you comparing restaurant rules to the church?
The Army makes you do lots of pushups. Should we make people do pushups when they enter the sanctuary?
In my eleven years of pastoring, I've seen well over a thousand visitors, none of them who didn't wear shirts. That would be awkward, I'll admit. But shoes? No problem. We had a teen guitar player who would frequently play barefoot.
When Chuck Smith started reaching out to the hippy movement, hundreds of them came into his church and nearly all were barefoot. The board demanded that Chuck require shoes because the oils of the feet of the hippies were ruining the carpet. Chuck told them to buy new carpet and leave his hippies alone!
