The passage in 1 Cor. 14 was a quote from Jewish tradition that the Corinthians gave to Paul because they did not like the way he used women in Gospel work and because they did not want women prophesying, preaching, and teaching in the assembly like he promoted. Paul says, "What?" Do you think you guys with your Jewish women hating traditions are giving forth the Word of God to me or am I the guy giving out the Word to you. If anyone among you thinks he's spiritual or a prophet, let him acknowledge that what I've written are God's commandments. What had Paul written? That women can prophesy and speak with tongues and interpret according to the guidelines that he had given them. |
