Tithing your gross income wasn't taught by the Christian church until after Nicea and the churching becoming the state religion. The Ante-Nicene church fathers don't back that up neither does the examples in Acts or the Epistles of church giving. The first reference to it is the Apostolic Constitutions which are 4th century.
