Even though the exUPC church we were attending was a very strong proponent of 3 step salvation / Acts 2:38 you would have thought we had become Baptists. We were ignored ostracized, and treated horribly. When we got back home from a visit to one of our former UPC churches (while visiting close relatives), and were in shock our exUPC pastor counseled us marvelously. He told us to just let it all wash over us like water over a ducks back and for us not become bitter, that we were to soar with the eagles above all that type stuff. This was particularly meaningful coming from a man who had been mistreated and had every right to be bitter against the UPC himself.
I think things are better now a bit for most who leave. At least I hope so!

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.
"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.
"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."
