As far as obesity goes, I sliced and diced nothing and have no idea what you're talking about. I simply said that obesity is NOT a sin and there are several physical disorders that result in obesity that have NOTHING to do with behavior. Obesity CAN be the result of sin, but it is not a sin! Saying that obesity is a sin is like saying pregnancy is a sin. I can be the result of it, but it's not sin. And I absolutely DO believe that gluttony is a sin and I said so previously. You're putting words in my mouth that I never said.
I never called you a Big Baby. I did use the Forums smiley list, so talk to Admin about the the guy with the hanky or the violin if you don't like my posts.

I'm not angry...

Wait, am I hearing you right? You condemn people because of wearing lip gloss, yet people can eat until their body falls apart, inside and out, and you think that's OK????

See, you're cornered with, hold your breath ladies and gentlemen, THE FACTS!

You accept one thing that is wrong, but not another. This is exactly what happens with people who try to build a Religious Utopia. It’s not long, and human failure begins to rise up within a Religious circle. There is no avoiding this. It is the plight of every Faith. This leads to justifying these rising faults within a Religion, as long as you don’t violate the main core of beliefs. Before long the faction becomes motivated by Fear, as a movement wants to show no weakness or sign of failing from past dogmatic claims. Out comes the “Smoke and Mirrors” or the fake idea that everything is OK. We hide the suicide, the depression, and the weak behind our “Holiness”.

This whole process creates blindness if mercy isn’t granted to others of differing opinions or failure.

Apostolics have been an arrogant, self righteous bunch in the past, labeling all who don’t follow our idea about Scripture as “Hell Bound”, and this little pile under the carpet has been discovered.

I find it amusing that we can fail to remember who actually murdered Jesus Christ. It wasn’t sinners; it was those who held dear to their hearts the Traditions of Men and who served the Temple with teaching and the Word of God.

We are no different. We can duplicate this same sin.

Actually, you're not hearing him right; OP didn't say that. He stated clearly that gluttony was a sin.

Ah, MissBrattifield, you're chiming in. I do remember you waaay back on my Deep Waters Thread on this subject.

I guess the point is, if a person weighs in at a lovely 400 lbs, how did they get there?

The old "Thyroid" problem is an overrated excuse to get big and eat till you pop. I've sat at more Apostolic table spreads than you can count, and people are GORGING themselves and our Churches are suffering physically because of it.

Careful with those “Smoke and Mirrors”.

NFS - I'm not disagreeing with you that it's a big problem, no pun intended. I do agree with OPII that gluttony is a sin; the results of gluttony are not. It's wrong (and patently judgmental) to go around judging obese people as sinners because of their state. Perhaps they are; perhaps they aren't. That would be like judging a person with cirrhosis of the liver as being a drunk. Maybe; maybe not.

A lot of this is an American problem, not a CHURCH problem. There are certainly many more factors than just caloric intake, including but not limited to: Processed, refined foods; ignorance about nutrition; limited access to healthy foods; limited budgets; sedentary lifestyles, to name a few.

I do agree with you that the church could be a catalyst for change if we recognized this as a problem people actually need help with and tried to address it just as we address those who struggle with alcohol.

Anyway, my only point was that you accused OPII of saying something he didn't.

Well, kind of. It often times is related at least. And if not gluttony, obesity surely is not the way to keep your body. Not very healthy. And I'm SURE that can put us in hell too.

The mad one certainly wouldn't be me, but it appears I needed to go to extreme to help you understand what I was saying. I ran out of options. You were either completely disregarding what I said, or ignoring me, or you weren't reading, or something. I couldn't have been more clear yet you just kept saying that I said something that I didn't say.

There is no question that obesity is primarily caused by overeating. But for you to look at a heavy person and automatically assume they overeat is foolish and you're doing the same thing that you're accusing me of. You're judging.

Have you ever been prescribed prednisone because of a serious illness? It can cause extreme weight gain. Have you ever had diabetes so bad that it spirals out of control and causes extreme weight gain? Have you ever heard of the chemical malfunction in the brain that continually sends signals to the stomach that says it's extremely hungry?

Thyroid problems, which are rare, aren't the only thing that causes weight gain.

Diabetes doesn't cause weight gain. In fact, it can cause weight loss. Sometimes Type 2 diabetics can gain weight after starting insulin, one theory being it normalizes your metabolism.
