Only native-born U.S. citizens (
or those born abroad, but only to parents who were both citizens of the U.S.) may be president of the United States, though from time to time that requirement is called into question, most recently after Arnold Schwarzenegger, born in Austria, was elected governor of California, in 2003.

Additionally, the
Twelfth Amendment states that: "[N]o person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of
Vice-President of the United States." The
Fourteenth Amendment does not use the phrase "natural born citizen". It does provide that
"All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside."

The presidency does NOT require both parents be US citizens if he is a natural born citizen (born here)
