The person I talked to described chest compressions....the protocol for cpr has changed...its now just straight compressions...the goal is to keep the blood circulating to let the o2 thats present in the blood to be used and to keep nitrogen from building up...the compressions cause the lungs to compress and retract somewhat allowing the gas exchange to happen...so just cause someone wasnt breathing for him doesnt mean cpr wasnt happening...but yeah compressions were being done.

Right, the AHA has as well as many EMS SOPs are changing, but the ambulance crew would still bag for administering O2 and get a tube started ASAP.

I'm just now catching up on this portion of the thread. Are you confident enough about that that I could authoritatively quote you on it? The CPR (or even "just" compression) was something that no one else has brought to the discussion before.
