Re: Miracle at Impact Conference

Yeah..worked a sad code on a elderly man in a nursing home..he had a pacemaker put in that day and was vomiting...instead of keeping him for observation they sent him back to the nursing home that day where he coded...we arrived got him on the truck...was the first time I had done compressions on a person before...was sobering...just kept thinking "If he was having trouble like this WHY did they send him back?" In Bro. Arnolds case he had scratches on his neck from them frantically trying to get a carotid pulse...From what I have personally heard from reliable eye witnesses that were there is that he was pale and dizzy during the sermon and even before preaching...and had gotten out of breath...he preached and commented several times how he was feeling....he called a alter call and was sitting and passed out....was revived then started having bad trouble breathing and vomited and collapsed...Like I said I know the 3 RN's involved...I mean you are in a church service and this happens I can see where you are going to be torn between praying and jumping into action with your medical skills. When you are on the ambulance or in the ER working...you are prepared to see things like this..you understand that you are in this environment that deals with sickness and death and you are trained for it...you have time to mentally "Put your game face on".... but out of nowhere in a church service? It takes a sec to switch gears...

Do you know if there was or wasn't CPR? I'm a bit confused on that point.

Why not do both?

Re: Miracle at Impact Conference

The person I talked to described chest compressions....the protocol for cpr has changed...its now just straight compressions...the goal is to keep the blood circulating to let the o2 thats present in the blood to be used and to keep nitrogen from building up...the compressions cause the lungs to compress and retract somewhat allowing the gas exchange to happen...so just cause someone wasnt breathing for him doesnt mean cpr wasnt happening...but yeah compressions were being done.

I may actually understand it a bit better with what Jeddi said. If he threw up, there would have been hesitation to give rescue breaths and continue to breath for him. These medical personnel present were not likely on the clock and carrying any barrier devices.

Combine that, with the fact that many nurses and doctors rarely if ever perform CPR and it may explain why only limited chest compression was done.

Re: Miracle at Impact Conference

@ Sam....they did do both...but you have to put your self in their shoes....this isnt some nameless person you have no connection with that you can detatch yourself from...this is someone they knew that dropped and was dead...not saying that medical people are unconcerned when its someone they dont know but it makes it alot more of a shock when it is...you have to think...we make all these claims about what "Our God" can do...well? Even if there was a delay is it incompetence or faith?Do we really believe He is able?Is it possible that with the sermon and the spirit of faith that was moving that some decided to take God at His word?...I feel it is quite possible that God used this to push some to a greater level of faith. Its interesting that we pray for God to "Show yourself strong o God" I pray this...I pray this acknowledging my weakness and Gods strength in a situation...you ever think that sometime to see His strength we must first be placed in a position to we are weak and powerless? The disciples would have never been able to see Jesus as the one that "Even the winds and waves obey" unless they FIRST had been through the storm...maybe this happened here?

Right, the AHA has as well as many EMS SOPs are changing, but the ambulance crew would still bag for administering O2 and get a tube started ASAP.

Re: Miracle at Impact Conference

Yeah...EMS personnel skill sets are a lil different from nursing*I know u know this Hoovie...just explaining to those that dont* EMS personnel are trained to treat life threats to keep the patient alive in often uncontrolled situations and environments until they can reach the hospital...Its called "Pre-Hospital Care" Now...what a RN and a Medic would do in the same situation more often than most would differ....the Nurse works for the most part directly under the supervision of the physician and receives their orders from him...the Medic works remotely under protocols established by the physician*aka Medical Control* so that in certain situations he has standing orders to act and administer treatment....basically we dont always have time to ask "Mommy may I?" Nurses work in a more sterile and controlled environment and because of that their methods of treatment differ somewhat.

Re: Miracle at Impact Conference

The thing is that CPR isnt like in the movies....its not a sure way to bring someone back...*correct me if I'm wrong Hoovie* but isnt the resuscitation rate something like 15% when CPR is administered?
