Re: dances/prom??
A bigger question is, would you shun a just-married couple who did a dance at their reception? (This is assuming the reception was NOT in the church basement and the music was not limited to such great hits as "I'm a Pentecostal!".)

Are talking about the song released by CLC? I thought that I liked that song until I heard the whole thing. By the end I was disgusted enough that I would be happy to never hear the song again. I prefer some of the other songs that we have had when discussing ourselves.

Re: dances/prom??
I got saved in my senior year of HS, so Christianity was fresh and new to me, and honestly I had no desire to attend my prom (a bunch of Christian friends and I who were graduating seniors dressed up and went for a nice meal at a restaurant instead.) Walking along the streets that night, we worshipped God and danced in the spirit. To this day, I don't think I missed anything. I didn't go to any of the senior class events: senior trips, sleepaways, etc and have no regrets in the least. I suppose it might be different for someone who was raised up in an apostolic church, though.

Having been raised all of my life in a strong Apostolic Pentecostal home, I can say that I never missed attending the dances and parties that occured in the world. I never cared to have any alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, or any other number of evils. I did have some weeknesses, but nothing that I would call straight up worldly. I have watched people that I grew up in church with who always stood with one foot in the world, and not one of them is in the church today. I took to heart the preacher when he said, "The key to living for God is to not live as close to the line as possible, but to live far from it."

Re: dances/prom??
I was fortunate. My kids graduated from Christian schools that had "banquets" instead of dances. I didn't have to make that choice. I'm not sure what I would have done. I don't like teens slow dancing together, so I DO have a problem with it.
I was never allowed to go to dances. It didn't kill me, although at the time I thought it would be fun.
