Re: The Dangers of Sexting.

Jay--pornography is definitely a sin, BUT it is also an addiction. We have dealt with so many men who are addicted to different types of porn. It's sad, and they usually are good men who just got caught up in a lifestyle that is really hard to break, with the ease of technology now. They aren't the terrible sinners you make them out to be - they are good Christian men who are struggling with something that they can't just walk away from. It sometimes takes years of discipline to break those habits. You might be surprised at how many of your church men struggle with porn. If you don't struggle personally, thank God! But have mercy on those who are sincerely trying to leave it and not justifying their actions.

Exactly.

It's not just men, either.

And it's not just pornography, either.

There's a place where sin becomes bondage and to be harsh with the person trapped isn't going to help them. Give them a hand and help them find freedom..don't step on their fingers every time they get ahold of the edge of the hole to pull themselves out. It doesn't mean it's not sin...I don't think anyone can truly appreciate what this kind of sin is and what impact it can really have on one's relationship with God like someone who struggles with it or has struggled with it. I don't know anyone who speaks as adamantly about staying away from these sort of things as someone who's dealt with it. But I also know that their message is dripping with the love of God, and the grace of God. If it weren't for that grace...... Call it sloppy grace if you want to, I need every drippy bit of sloppy grace God has extended to me. Because I know He extended it to me when I was such a mess...and without condition at that...I feel quite secure in it and quite willing to do/be/become whatever He desires.

It is not an addiction.... There are no withdraw symptoms... It's a strong hold from the enemy and repentece will take care of it...When someone calls it an "addiction" they are supplying the men with an excuse to keep looking at it cause they " can't help it "..... At that point in there life they are not " good Christian men" they are men that need to forsake their sin...

While i believe that there is addiction; to drugs, alcohol, and other things that alter brain chemistry by releasing certain hormones and opioid type chems whether from hyper-stimulation or fear or whatever...

I also know that... here it comes... GOD DELIVERS.

I am not a fan of 12 step programs that try to convince that our frailties are bigger than God and that we will be drug addicts, alcoholics, gamblers, sex addicts, or anything else forever.

I do not find bible to support that idea at all, do you?

Do you think for a moment that a drug addict can forget the way drugs made him feel? Do you think it somehow stopped being an appealing sin to him just because he found God?

Yep, I sure do... I did a fair amount of dope before I knew the Lord. I don't think about it at all ever anymore. Even in conversations like this one there is no appeal. Don't want a cigarette anymore either, or casual sex with someone I am not married to, or even an ice cold beer.

I am not trying to give the devil any credit here by discussing my sins that are now under the blood but when I was born again and filled with the HG the desire for that horrible life went away. It is like dark glasses were removed and I am able to see that way is death. Many of my friends are now dead, more than are alive at this point. Every year we bury another one of the people we knew from the old neighborhood and sometimes their children as drugs, alcohol, sex addictions, Hepatitis C and AIDS take them. Nope, I don't desire what reached into my life and tried to destroy me, not at all. The reason? God delivered me, every bit of glory to Him for it.

And I believe that the homosexual, the doper, the drunk, the fornicator, those that struggle with perversion, dabble in the occult, or even worship Satan can be plucked from the mirey clay and put on the rock, don't you?

I also believe (by experience) that God delivers, but let's not paint this to be an easy road. It has definitely not been for me, and for others I know. There are some things that He has completely taken away, over night. There have been others that have taken years to realize even a small degree of victory over.

Amen! God still has power.
