I respect your convictions, on this, aegsm76.

I had a conversation with one of my kids yesterday about related topic in the same chapter, that of a head covering for women. The principle regarding hair, head coverings, etc is regarding authority in the spiritual realm.

1Co..11:3-10
But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.
Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head.
But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.
For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.
For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.
For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man.
Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man
For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels.

With her head covered- ok, what, exactly does this mean? Does this mean long hair? Uncut hair? Does this mean a scarf or a hoodie? A visit to diverse cultural churches lets you know there is no unaminous opinion about it. So what does it mean? The answer is, we don't know for certain.

not covered, let her also be shorn - Just looking at the text it can be interpreted here that it was NOT a shame for a woman to be shorn. , but there aren't many apostolics that would admit it. So what is the right answer? There is the position that the pagan prostitutes in Corinth shaved their hair. Is Paul sarcastically strengthening his argument for long hair? Do we know what he really meant? The answer again is, we don't know for certain.

For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels - And why, "because of the angels"? What does this mean? This is where LS goes awry. Long hair in his view contains mystical powers. There's enough on Youtube and written about it; take my word for it.
But what does the phrase, "because of the angels" mean? The answer is, NOBODY really knows for certain.

I respect someone with a personal conviction to not cut their hair so long as it remains their conviction. It is their right and their liberty in Christ to cut or not to cut their hair.

To use this one passage of scripture, a letter written by Paul (without chapter and verses in it) to the Corinthian church (a church he started and probably visited more than once) is like pulling a sentence from a letter I would write to some Christians I know in Raleigh, Colorado, or Texas. You couldn't possibly understand the context unless you had been there.

This could be another thread, but imo there's a problem taking passages of scripture that could very well be completely cultural and lifting them from that world if you will, and applying it to 20th/21st Century culture.
