Conviction revolves around one emotional quirk; guilt (feeling wrong about not doing what is right). The Scribes and Pharisees are the perfect example of those who used Conviction to reach a specific level in Faith. Problem was, Conviction turned many “Rights” into “Wrongs”. Humans can follow the slippery slope of any extreme, and this imbalance can lead people to feeling wrong about something that others do with liberty.

Here is an excellent example; wine. Some Religious Organizations feel that wine, with alcohol, is wrong to consume and they take a strong stand against any intake of this drink. That may be fine for a certain group of people, but others may feel that wine in moderation is totally acceptable, and is even allowed using Scripture to prove it is.

What happens, the group against wine will end up condemning the group that drinks wine. Right and Wrong end up in this valley of “Conviction”, where dogmatic and self-righteous ploys are developed because conviction goes haywire. This eventually leads to confusion, and the group who once took this strong stand may actually wind up reneging on a past and supposable “Wrong” (Stay in Religion long enough and you will see this happen).

Here’s where things get real dicey! When the change takes place, some people stand back in awe, claiming that the change is the result of compromise (Right went to Wrong), when in reality, change was the result of Truth. This is a very tough pill to swallow if a person still feels conviction about a particular action or liberty that another group has begun to enjoy.

If you or another person feels wrong about something, be careful! Our own feelings are a huge downfall when it comes to making sound decisions about ourselves and others. Conviction can lead us to hate, kill, and destroy those who think differently than us. Conviction also creates, IMO, the most horrifying problem that any Faith Based Group could imagine; Blindness.
