I remember a time, guess I was about 19 or 20. I was working out of town and trying to find my motel in a strange town. I pulled into an empty lot that (I found out later) was a Sears warehouse to look at my map. It was about 11:30pm. Upon pulling out of the lot I noticed a small white Chev. Cavalier following me. After driving and turning for several blocks I noticed the car was still following me. Being in a strange town it bothered me at first, then it just ticked me off. I pulled into another empty parking lot and stopped, the car pulled in and stopped about 30 yards behind me and just sat there. Being young and dumb, matched with 6'4" 235lbs frame, I grabbed a piece of pipe (was driving my work vehicle) and walked back towards the car. Before I got to him the parking lot was full of police cars.
Turns out, he was a security guard who thought it suspicious that I was sitting behind a Sears warehouse and followed me until the police could catch up.
Here is the equation for you. According to Florida's "Stand Your Ground" law, who is right and who is wrong? Had there been a security company decal on the car then I would have realized what was going on. But since there wasn't, I felt threatened, and thus I "stood my ground". The security guard could have used the same argument and shot me.
The problem in this case will be the same. It is very possible that Treyvone felt threatened and thus decided to "stand his ground", which in turn lead to Zimmy doing the same.
So what do you do?
I still don't follow you. Stand your ground does not mean you confront and attack people.

Stand your ground certainly doesn't mean that you chase and confront people who have done nothing either. Particularly when instructed not to, but to meet the law enforcement professionals.

I agree. But to Treyvone, who was attacking who? If you were Treyvone, walking home from the store in the middle of the night and notice a man following you, watching you, without identifying himself. You walk away and he keeps following you. Would you not feel threatened ?
In reality, he done what I would have done. Lose the guy, circle around and catch him by surprise and confront him.
From this point in time we don't know what was said or who may have "taken the first swing". If he did lose Zimmerman for the purpose of catching him off guard to confront him, then Zimmerman could have reacted first.
We just don't know. Either way, Zimmerman pursued to the point that Treyvone confronted him. At this point, either man can claim the "stand your ground" defense.
