Re: How to Save Money

Oh, yeah, I also left a $1.00 tip in the hotel, which isn't much, but it's more than most people leave.

LOL, sorry about that ILG. I re-read what you had posted after I had already posted my reply and had one of those "duh" moments where you suddenly realize that you might have read something wrongly. Ooops. sorry. I KNEW you wouldn't stiff the girl - don't know why I even saw it that way at first. My big mistake!

I read it the same way you did because I KNOW people who tip like that. If they go to a nice restaurant where the check for 4 people comes to 80 bucks they'll leave $2 and think they are being generous.

Wow ILG! That's a great way to have a wonderful vacation just making use of basic coupons and discounts available! Thanks for all the great tips... even the one you were accused of not making

Re: How to Save Money

We were in Vegas a couple of weeks ago at the MGM Grand. We got a GREAT deal on our rooms and since we drove it only cost us a couple of tanks of gas to get there and back. But man oh man, the food there is NOT cheap. LOL

Gone are the $3 steaks and $5 all-you-can-eat buffets (at least on the strip -there are some deals to be had if you stay downtown). We NEARLY ate at Joël Robuchon's (voted Chef of the Century) restaurant at the Grand knowing it would cost an arm and leg but when we calculated just how much that arm and leg would run us, we passed. It would have been hard for the two of us to escape there without dropping $400-450. And yet his place was packed! Man, I'd love to be waiter there!

RW: I'm glad you decided your arm and leg were worth more than $400-450

Thanks, Margies. I try not to make the waitstaff pay for my frugality. For example, at the fancy restaurant we went to my meal was $20 and my husband's was $21. So the tab was $41.00. (We always drink water unless we are forced by coupon to order a drink.) The coupon I paid $2.00 for was $25.00 off, our tab came to 16.00....plus the $2.00 was $18.00 total and I left $25.00 to pay for the meal so that left a $7.00 tip for the waitstaff but the meal only cost us $27.00 total.

Here is a list of freebie birthday meals etc. There is SO much online on this, I was trying to find the one I used. but couldn't find it I do NOT go for coupons with free appetizers or desserts or drinks. I go for the Buy one get one free or just plain free meals.
