On the flip-side, making it salvational is problematic.

How true. Then again there are tens of thousands of deaths EVERY YEAR due to medical mistakes! Why no thread warning about the risks of medical science?

Yes, absolutely. To some extent this is just about cultural thinking. The only time I have an issue with what people preach is if they put the fear of hell into people in order to control them. God has not given us a spirit of fear....
