The one saying that was a pagan king, so it would actually be more correct for him to say a son of the gods, instead of the Son of God, since he was a polytheistic monarch who believe in many Gods.
"The Son of God" actually sounds too monotheistic to have come from the lips of a pagan king.

I really do not think that is a glaring error, but a more correct wording for a pagan king.
