I've enjoyed reading through your discussion ILG and PO... good luck with your birthday discussion with your daughter about the birth control hobby horse ILG I hope it goes well, and that your daughter can understand it more clearly.
I have a friend who raised her children very conservatively. They both went off to university, a Christian university at that, and came home staunch liberals/democrats. Apparently this is because professors demand you see things their way, and if you don't conform, you don't grade well, and they eventually persist until it is very hard to know what you believe. My friend was heartbroken when she realized both her children, raised in a loving, God-fearing, conservative home who went off to a "christian" university, both came out with liberal views.
Thanks KBTW. My daughter attended a secular university and got a BA in English Literature. I was shocked at some of the stuff she was forced to read for classes but she defended it. And, it has to be considered that we left UPC at the same time she started college. I told her I don't feel I need to force her to believe there is a God.....that God is self-evident and He reveals Himself. God knows even more than I do what she has endured in the name of religion. My kids know a lot about Christian history having watched a number of Great Courses and they can practically quote it verbatim.
And actually, we are all pretty much libertarians here. My husband and I lean conservative and our kids, liberal.
My kids have liberal leanings but every once in a while I do see that what was instilled in them yet remains to some level and for that I am thankful. And, as annoyed as I am about having to study this stuff, I am trying to see it as an opportunity for discussion.

Wow - that's a lot of furniture to be finishing! I don't have the patience to do much of it. I know your work is amazing, I've seen the pictures of furniture that you've painted that you've posted.
I don't believe I have! Post one here, PO!

I'll try. Drinking a cup of coffee, reading the news, looking to my left to get motivated on getting busy today. Time is running short and I am dragging my feet.

For your kids, no doubt the pendulum is still swinging, and if you are patient, it will level itself out. I do believe that university professors have done a lot of damage to the minds of impressionable young adults.

My thoughts are that the Hobby Lobby decision is more or less meaningless. There is nothing that prevents the insurance company from charging Hobby Lobby the same rates as everyone else and offering Hobby Lobby's employees the same contraceptive coverage without Hobby Lobby being directly responsible for paying for that coverage.

I could be mistaken, but I believe the wrinkle is that they are self-insured.

I would be interested to know more about this part. My understanding is that the difference is that they are a family owned company and not a huge corporation. (Don't know if they sell stocks??) As a family owned company, which is relatively a small business, they make decisions on what they will and will not provide for employees rather than a board of people working for stockholders?? I am not sure if this is how it works or not.
Also, I saw on a video that the insurance will cover all contraception but Hobby Lobby will not have to pay for it. Not sure how that works. I wonder if an employee were able to purchase the coverage out of their own pocket as an additional coverage not covered by Hobby Lobby??

HL is a "Closely Held Corporation" and that designation is vital to the decision.
They are not a "publicly held" corporation, meaning they do not have stocks that trade on the open market with ownership of hte company in the hands of any member of the public who decides to purchase stock.
"Closely held" is far more important than size in this case. HL is a 2.6Billion dollar company with 20k+ employees.

Okay, family owned vs stocks on open market. Makes sense.
