One reading was enough to see he wasn't boasting. When a person says they have better things to do with their time then to waste it with fools, they're boasting? The word for boaster ἀλαζών means empty pretender. What was he pretending? I have better things to do, simply means that what he was currently doing was a waste of time dealing with foolishness. That couldn't be listed under pretending? Was he pretending to be rather doing something better? Did he really want to continue to go back and forth with your nonsense? Instead of doing something more worthwhile with his time?
